Humiliation of a Nurse and a Lady Doctor by the Staff of Judge in Umerkot

According to the media reports, today, a lady doctor and a nurse were allegedly humiliated by the staff of a session judge in Umerkot district of Sindh. According to the videos circulated on social media, the lady doctor and the nurse were verbally abused by the judge and his staff members. The nurse told that she was also physically abused by the female police constables.

According to the details, the lady doctor and the nurse were performing their duties in a government hospital at Umerkor district of Sindh. They were asked by a security guard of the session Judge to go the house of the judge to provide medicine to one of the family members of the Judge. The doctor and the nurse asked for permission of the medical superintendent (MS) of the hospital. They were willing to go to his house after permission from the MS, even it was not their duty.

However, the security guard went back and later both the nurse and the lady doctor were taken to the judge by the Police. According to them, both were physically abused by the judge and his staff. The nurse told that she was also physically abused by the female police constables.

Doctors and nurses professional associations are condemning this human rights’ violation by the judge. Moreover, the far-flung regions of rural Sindh, like Umerkot, are already deficient in skilled doctors, nurses, and paramedical staff. The incidences like this will further contribute.

The incidence raises many questions regarding the state of human rights in rural Sindh. However, the alleged involvement of a session judge necessitates asking the question; are there any rules regulations and accountability for judges in Pakistan?
